UNION CITY, Calif., July 26, 2012/Christian Newswire --
The National Black Pro-life Coalition expresses heartfelt sympathy to the family of Tonya Reaves -- the most recent victim of a botched abortion performed at a Chicago Planned Parenthood facility. Tonya's death is particularly tragic because this is not Planned Parenthood's and other abortionists' first incident killing both mother and child. Abortion, the most unregulated surgical procedure in the nation, has left a trail of dead women and over 54 million babies in its wake.
Planned Parenthood has long maintained abortion is a safe, just option for women. They claim that keeping it legal will ensure no more women are harmed. However Ryan Bomberger, Chief Creative Officer of The Radiance Foundation disagrees: "Pro-abortion activists like to call abortion 'reproductive justice,' but we can only call this reproductive death. We mourn for the loss of these two lives and the devastation of many more, regardless of race."
Stephen Broden, senior pastor of Fair Park Bible Fellowship, believes "Tonya Reaves death is a tragedy that must be made known across America. This is another example of how Planned Parenthood is a threat to our women, children and ultimately our survival. Their influence and presence must be removed from our community," he said.
Pro-abortion activists claim that pro-life advocates are using Ms. Reaves tragic death as a means to promote a political agenda. However Catherine Davis, Founder and President of the Restoration Project, finds that idea repugnant:
Tonya Reaves death is not about a political agenda. This is about the healthcare disparities Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers have long inflicted upon Black women all across America. This is about the failure of an organization that holds itself out as a champion of women, to champion reasonable medical care standards for women of color.
"Abortion is the leading cause of death among Blacks and once again Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion provider, is involved in the death our women and children. No one has the right to take the life of an innocent human being. It's time Planned Parenthood be held accountable for the loss of life in its abortion dens," saidWalter B. Hoye II, Founder & President, Issues4Life Foundation.
Rev. Arnold Culbreath, Director of Urban Outreach for Protecting Black Life agrees. "Surely the African-American community will wake up and stop giving Planned Parenthood a pass after seeing Tonya Reaves killed and her unborn baby butchered at their hands," he said.
"We pray this tragedy awakens the collective conscience of Black America to a wretched, unregulated industry that has profited from the deaths of children and deliberate miseducation of young women" said Dean Nelson, Chairman, Frederick Douglass Foundation.
"We still believe that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere," said Alveda King, Founder of King for America. "Tonya's death is unjust and our prayers go out to Tonya's family and her now orphaned son Alvin."
